After some hardwork by superm1 and tgm4883 we now have the server backup in a new location. It should be working for you guys now however the DNS will take a short while to propagate across the various nameservers. In the mean time you can also find it via http://mythbuntu.stacktrace.org

The Alpha3 was released a day before we lost out server, but since we’re back up now I’ll tell you about it here. The release notes can be found here and the isos:

If your reading this wondering what Mythbuntu is then “Mythbuntu is an Ubuntu derivative focused upon setting up a standalone MythTV system similar to Knoppmyth or Mythdora. At the time, it is not a Canonical sanctioned project because of the licensing on several of the MythTV dependencies. Mainly, it can be seen as a preconfigured Ubuntu install for mythtv usage. All unnecessary applications such as OpenOffice, Evolution, and a full Gnome desktop are not installed for a Mythbuntu installation. At any time, a user may choose to install ubuntu-desktop, kubuntu-desktop, or xubuntu-desktop and add a full desktop onto their installation.”

Another blow to DRM

August 15, 2007

We all knew it could happen, you buy your drm video/music and would then be unable to use in down the line because the company you brought from no longer supports your platform/software or shuts the authentication site. However what none of us could predict would be that the ‘do no evil’ company would be the first. There is a nice article over at ars which explains the consequences better than I could, http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070812-google-selleth-then-taketh-away-proving-the-need-for-drm-circumvention.html

Mythbuntu.org is down

August 8, 2007

I’ve been getting alot of hits on mythbuntu now since the site died. We are currently looking at it getting moved however I’m not sure of the downtime reason but it’s getting moved to a new DC.

In the meantime you can download the ISO’s from out mirror http://mirror.polorix.net/index.php?dir=Mythbuntu and join us in irc at #ubuntu-mythtv on freenode.net
